Being Vulnerable is FUN with Garry Turner

Or wherever you get your podcasts

What are the benefits of being vulnerable at work? Why is authoritarian leadership losing its power over employees? How can organizations enable employees to be more effective through free expression?

These are some of the heavy topics that we tackle with special guest Garry Turner on today’s podcast. Garry is a Strategic Advisor and Thinking Partner as well as Founder of HEXO Change who leverages over 20 years of international commercial experience leadership and building human-centered approaches across people, culture and systems.

Garry encourages us that being vulnerable is actually FUN! He states, “It’s actually one of the most freeing experiences of my life. I’ve gotten much more comfortable sitting in vulnerability and that’s when life opens up.”

I also chimed in about my experience with vulnerability “If I’m being vulnerable, I’m being myself. It’s when I’m trying to fit in or not being authentic to myself, that’s when I feel a major disconnect to my purpose.”

If leaders are still taking a bullying approach to get employees to comply, they are in for a rude awakening when workers start to leave the organization.

We’ve got so much evidence for DEI, the value of being human, and focusing on employee well-being, so why haven’t we been able to fully pivot? It’s because we are still beholden to the antiquated and engrained leadership messages of the past.

This is a great episode for any leaders who are looking to center themselves and lead with love and compassion!

Thanks, as always, for tuning in!
